Easter 2015 at Lake Maggiore
from 1st to 14th April 2015
Celebrate Easter enjoying the enchanted atmosphere of Lake Maggiore. Among palaces, monasteries and flower gardens you will spend the festivities in a unique scenery, kissed by the first rays of spring sunshine.
1st day: Arrival in Stresa
Arrival, check-in in 3* hotel in Stresa, dinner in gourmet restaurant in the heart of Stresa.
2nd day: Lake Maggiore’s treasures
After breakfast you will embark on a ferry-boat with a free circulation ticket and you will spend the day discovering the treasures of Lake Maggiore. A definite must is a visit to the Hermitage Santa Caterina del Sasso, hanging off the rock wall like a balcony admiring the Borromean Gulf.
Travelling south along the Lombard side of the lake it’s impossible to miss the towering silhouette of the Rocca d’Angera, strategically placed on a spur of rock above the lake. Originally erected by the House of Visconti, it was bought in 1449 by the Borromeo family who owns it to this day.
“A beautiful garden does not need to be big, but should be the realization of one’s dream, even though it is only a couple of square meters large and it is situated on a balcony“. This was the opinion of Neil Mc Earcharn, the Scottish Captain who in 1931 bought the majestic Villa Taranto. Returning north, in Pallanza, the ferry-boat stops just in front of the Villa and its splendid garden, recently reopened after substantial repairs to welcome visitors from all over the world.

You will continue on to Isola Bella, Beautiful Island, to discover the extraordinary baroque Palace and Italian garden with its ten terraces overlooking the lake, after which a delicious 3-course lunch awaits at Ristorante Elvezia. Last stop of the day is Isola Superiore dei Pescatori, Fisherman’s Island, where you can enjoy a stroll through the narrow alleys, browse the typical shops of the medieval village and have a refreshing gelato on the lake front.
