Easter at Lake Maggiore
March 29th – April 1st 2013
A good idea to spend Eater outdoor… Four days atLake Maggioreto relax yourself and to visit beautiful places so closed to us! A relaxing stay in Stresa, the so-called “Pearl of the Lake” with some excursions which will let you discover wonderful places, hidden like treasure chests…
Let you surprise from beauties of the second biggest lake of Italy and its surrounding area…
Friday, 29th March: arrival, check-in and dinner in a 3-star-hotel of Stresa, the so-called “Pearl of Lake Maggiore”, facing the Borromeo Gulf.
Saturday, 30th March: today you visit the Borromeo Islands… The “isola Bella” (Beautiful island) with its baroque palace and Italian styl gardens with ten balconies over the lake offers you an elegant and sumptuous ambiance. The excursion goes on with the visit of the the “isola Superiore dei Pescatori” (Fishermen’s island), its name comes from the main activity of its inhabitants. You can visit its small church, discover its medieval charm and its characteristic narrow alleys. On it we suggest you to try the typical islnd’s dessert: a lemon cake, a real specility! In the afternoon you continue to the “isola Madre” (Mother island), which is the bigest of the lake. Its particular botanical garden is famous for the blossoming of camellias, rhododendrons, azaleas as well as wisterias. Europe’s biggest specimen of Kashmir cypress grows here. In 2006 it was severely damaged by a hurricane and it survived thanks to the loving care of the island’s gardeners.
Sunday, 31st March: it’s Easter! And so today we suggest you to “escape” from lake’s mess with Lake Maggiore Express tour to discover our valleys. By train from Stresa you reach first Domodossola, Ossola Valley’s “capital town”. From there the tour continues by the famous Vigezzina or Centovallina train (100 Valleys train). A small railway connecting Domodossola to Locarno (in Switzerland). The train trip in Vigezzo Valley (Painters’ Valley) and in the Swiss Centovalli passes through tunnels and over bridges to spend a beautiful day among enchanting valleys and the wonderful lake. A wild-romantic experience between Italy and Switzerland. Once arrived in Locarno, Swiss town at Lake Maggiore, we suggest you a stroll in the centre to visit the “Piazza Grande”, town’s heart where the most famous events like the Film Festival take place, and of course can’t miss a little bit of shopping. In the afternoon departure from Locarno by special ferry-boat to Stresa, a pleasant cruise on the lake of about three hours… a spectacular way to end this day!
Monday, 1st April: today is Easter Monday and what’s more typical of a classical outdoor excursion?! Our daily excursion takes us to Lake Orta… This small lake is a little pearl dipped in a beautiful natural environment, it is one of the most characteristic places in Piedmont. Once arrived in the romantic village of Orta San Giulio and after a walk along narrow centre’s alleys, you caught a private motorboat to reach the San Giulio island. There visit of island’s church dedicated to Saint Giulio hold in a religious silence which characterizes the island. In the afternoon if you still want to visit something interesting we suggest you to reach Orta’s Holy Mount dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi before departing to come back home.
