Trontano Mushroom Festival

Culture and Gastronomy in the Ossola Valley

The mushroom festival “Sagra del Fungo” is held every year in the characteristic village of Trontano in the Ossola Valley. This year it’s back for its 32nd edition with a program which is just as tasty as it is culturally interesting.

Friday 16th September the charity stand opens at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. dinner is served. The specials of the evening are mushroom risotto and traditional boiled meats. After dinner there is dancing with the band Bolle di Sapone and DJ Andy.

Saturday 17th September the gates open for lunch with mushroom-themed specialities. Starting from 3 p.m. it will be possible to visit the photographic exhibit “Obiettivo Trontano” at the Oratory Santa Marta, the art exhibit “Sogno di una notte di fine estate” at the Oratory San Giacomo and the exhibition “Libramici” in the Parish Hall. At the Ecomuseum it will be possible to admire the ancient art of wool-processing with the folkloristic group of the Val Grande as well as a mushroom exhibition starting from 4 p.m. Saturday evening begins with a “cake competition” between the districts Castello, Mulitt and Torre before the restaurant kitchen opens at 7 p.m. Afterwards there will be music by the Orchestra Matteo Tarantino.

The last day, Sunday 18th, will start as early as 8 a.m. with the competition “Mushroom Composition”. At 10 a.m. the Autumn Fair will open with food stalls and handicraft as well as a variety of exhibitions. At 4 p.m. it’s time for the Parade of the Districts animated by the bands of Crevoladossola and Villadossola, Le Donne del Parco Valgrande, the Folk Group of Trontano Cosasca and local folk music bands. The prize givings of the Mushroom Composition will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the opening of the kitchen. Throughout the day there will be the possibility to participate in a guided tour of the village with visits to the Church, the Press, the Dairy and the Bread ovens with start at 10.30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. from the Tourist Office.
