Fly for Fun – Val Grande
The longest zip-line of Europe
The cable will have a length of about 1850 metres with a vertical drop of 289 metres, starting at an altitude of 1276 metres arriving at 987 metres a.s.l., the maximum height is 360 metres.
From project “Slow panorama” will be born next spring (March-April 2015) behind Verbania and at gates of Val Grande National Park, an attraction known as ‘zip-line’ or ‘flying-fox’.
The chosen name for the plant that will be open starting from next spring, is “Fly for Fun – Flight of Valgrande” and is based on a metal cable carrier with a diameter of 22 mm and a rope signaling placed above this, which will be tense, between locality Pian d’Arla (1307 m a.s.l.) and Segletta (960 m a.s.l.), two hamlets of Aurano town.
Pian d’Arla is reached along a stretch of about 2 km of a road recently arranged, starting from Colle: meeting point of roads that rise from Trarego and Aurano or Premeno.
The recreational activities consist in using a cable car (used in the past to transport downstream of wood), relying on gravity alone, to let people try the thrill of a flight into space. The user, suitably harnessed and secured, hanging drop along the length of the cable, can reach peaks of speed of 120 km/h.
After descending tourists will be greeted on arrival by a recreational area consisting in infrastructure equipped with essential services.
The plant ‘combi’ will be the longest in Europe and will be the first and only one on which tourists can choose to go down with the “angel flight” that is in the prone position or mode “zip line”, that is, with a harness similar to those used for mountain climbing. In “zip line” the user can hover swinging during descent on itself in all positions.
In the context of cableway installation will be carried out some additional works as a starting station (called ‘The Barn’), built with local stone and wood, necessary for masking the metal frame anchor. The structure will also be accessible to disabled people and will be equipped with toilets. The arrival station (‘The Shard’) will include toilets, local cuisine and bar service.
