Alternative weekend among sports, environment & culture

An alternative weekend dedicated to the eastern slopes of Mount Rosa, immersed in the nature and beauty of an ancient mountain village.


Day 1 – Arrival in the morning and check in at the hotel/apartment.

In the afternoon, guided tour of the Mountain and Contraband Museum, to discover the history of the peaks of the Mount Rosa.

The tour continues with a visit of the ancient Dorf, a small Walser village, where we find the old church and the old linden tree.

Dinner in a typical restaurant.


Day 2 - The day is dedicated to the discovery of Mount Rosa.

You will reach Alpe Bill from where you start for a panoramic walk to the Alpe Meccia and then to Sonobierg (about 2h, about 600m in altitude).

ORNAVASSO – “1st May Event: Life between Leponti and Walser”

The new Association of Ornavasso organizes, in collaboration with the Municipal Administration and local authorities, two festival days beginning on Sunday 30th until Monday May 1st. In Piazza 24 Maggio, starting at 6 p.m on Sunday, Celtic camping and dinner, Celtic music group and theme dances. On Monday morning, the traditional event “Life between Leponti and Walser” will take place with a gastronomic walk along the streets of the village. For access to all courtyards and dinners, it is compulsory to check in from 9.30 a.m to 3.30 p.m in Piazza Bianchetti and Piazza 24 Maggio. All participants will be provided with a glass, a cloth glass-holder and a map of the route.

On Monday 17th April, returns Scova l’ova a joyful appointment, over the years has grown and has recall a big number of small “Seekers of eggs.”

S…Cova l’ova is a pleasant free game for children up to 12 years old, who accompanied by their parents, will take part in a real hunt eggs.

On Monday, the old town of Santa Maria Maggiore will transform in an original stage of a great game: lot of eggs will be placed in the corners more hidden of the country, special gifts for all and a special surprise for who will be able to find a golden egg.

34th International Chimney Sweep Festival

International meeting in the Vigezzo valley

In Santa Maria Maggiore in the Vigezzo valley it’s time for the 34th celebration of the trade of the chimney sweep. From the 4th to the 7th of September the town will be filled with professionals and spectators from all over the world for this highly anticipated event. 

The Vigezzo valley, nicknamed the Valley of the Chimney Sweeps for the flow of emigrating chimney sweeps towards northern Europe in the 16th century, will host over a thousand chimney sweeps this year, coming not only from all over Italy but also from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium, England, Scotland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, USA and Japan. The great “black parade” last year broke all records attracting over 30.000 visitors.

Visits to the quarry of the Milan Cathedral

Discover the origins of one of the most famous Italian monuments during this unique excursion. Together with the Venerable Factory of the Milan Cathedral, the Authority of the Val Grande National Park organizes six appointments starting from May 15th to visit the quarry of the famous cathedral, in honour of the Expo 2015 in Milan. Accompanied by one of the Official Guides of the Park, the participants will depart by foot from Candoglia (Mergozzo) to reach the panoramic entrance to the quarry. Halfway they will pass the sawmill Venerable Factory of the Milan Cathedral, which is dedicated to working the blocks of precious marble from the quarry.

The Stresa Carnival 2015

For the Anglophones there’s Halloween but now the real costume party of the year is coming up.

Saturday 14, Sunday 15 and Tuesday 17 February the festivities of the Carnival will be held in Stresa.

They will commence at 3 p.m. in Piazza Cadorna on Saturday with costumes, snacks and hot chocolate.

On Sunday 15 King Falcètt will parade through the streets of Stresa, departing from the Convention Center until he reaches Piazza Cadorna where he  will declare the opening of the Carnival. The entertainment will be provided by the Corpo Musicale di S. Gerenzano and The Majorettes. There will also be a costume contest and prizes for the children. Cannobbio, “la marcia dei lanternit” is back!

Who says only in Halloween the night comes to life?

On  31 January come back the evocative walk in the moonlight for the 47th time, on Lake Maggiore.

Armed with only candels and lantern we will retrace the steps of the ancient “mulatiera” leading to Trarego (Verbania) pushed to departure from “Bandin”.

The meeting will be at 17:30 in “Angelo Custode Square” to strat to walk at 18:00.
